Using TinyPivot with the Next.js App Router
TinyPivot renders client-side. In a Next.js App Router project, add the "use client" directive to any component that imports from @smallwebco/tinypivot-react. The component itself has no server-side rendering requirement, so this is typically a one-line change to the file that wraps the grid.
Because TinyPivot handles all data operations in the browser, there is no additional Next.js configuration needed for route handlers or server components.
- Add "use client" to the file that imports DataGrid
- Pass an array of plain objects to the data prop
- Column definitions are derived from your object keys automatically
- No getServerSideProps or server component changes required
Pages Router integration
In a Pages Router project, import TinyPivot inside the page component or a child component directly. Because the grid runs client-side, you can fetch data with getStaticProps, getServerSideProps, or a client-side hook and pass the result to the DataGrid prop.
If you use dynamic imports with next/dynamic, set ssr: false to skip server-side rendering of the grid component entirely. Either approach works — the key constraint is that TinyPivot needs a browser environment.
What the free tier includes
The free tier of TinyPivot for React is a complete data grid and pivot workflow, not a restricted trial. Install @smallwebco/tinypivot-react, import the DataGrid component and its stylesheet, then pass your data array.
Free features include sorting, filtering, full-text search, pagination, column resize, CSV export, calculated fields, Sum aggregation with row and column totals, and 22 built-in themes. A small watermark is shown in the free tier.
- Sort, filter, search, and paginate any array of records
- Pivot table with Sum aggregation, row and column totals — free
- Calculated fields for derived metrics like margin or growth rate
- CSV export and column resize built in
- 22 themes including dark variants — no custom CSS needed
Bundle size in a Next.js project
The @smallwebco/tinypivot-react package is approximately 40 KB gzipped. It has no mandatory runtime dependencies beyond React itself, so the addition to your Next.js bundle is straightforward to reason about.
TinyPivot does not add server-side weight. All rendering is client-side, and the component is tree-shaken like any other React library in a Next.js build.
Upgrade to Pro for advanced analytics
TinyPivot Pro adds the full aggregation set (Count, Count Distinct, Average, Min, Max, Median, Standard Deviation), a drag-and-drop chart builder, pivot drill-through to underlying rows, styled XLSX export, session persistence, and watermark removal.
Pro also includes an optional BYOK AI Data Analyst. You configure the provider — OpenAI, Anthropic, or OpenRouter — and queries run through your own API key, keeping data in your environment. Pro is a one-time perpetual purchase: Single ($49), Unlimited ($149), or Team ($399). One license covers both @smallwebco/tinypivot-react and @smallwebco/tinypivot-vue.
